there had been some conflicting information about the year Schwinn bought
the original Excelsior manufacturing company. This web site formerly published
1905 as the purchase year and 1907 as the first year of production under
Schwinn ownership. Recently when researching on the web, Ancient Alley
discovered the purchase year as 1911 on the Schwinn web site. Accepting
the Schwinn web site as being the higher authority for accuracy the Excelsior
pages have been edited to read 1911 as the purchase year. Research has
shown that the original Excelsior company, pre-Schwinn ownership, was indeed
started in 1905 and began production in 1907.
